THE COLLABORATIVE ORCHESTRA is a diverse, ambitious amateur orchestra rehearsing, performing and recording in and around London, UK. It is made up of instrumentalists — and, more recently, singers! — from all walks of life who live in and around London. Although many are music teachers, many have “normal” daytime jobs, and some are students.
Depending on current personnel, we may also offer chamber ensembles, ranging from string quartets to wind and cello groups.
Off to a flying start from its very first rehearsal in February 2012, the orchestra continued with a well-received debut concert at St John’s Smith Square, one of London’s major concert halls, in July 2012. Many more concerts have followed, including several return visits to St John’s with an internationally acclaimed virtuoso as soloist, and also a collaboration with the BBC to film Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” (watch the show here).
Since our televised audition for ITV’s “Britain’s Got Talent” on April 9, 2016, however, millions around the country (and outside the UK) have gotten to know us by our rendition of Queen’s iconic song “Don’t Stop Me Now” — a performance that has so far gotten us through to the show’s semifinal round! The “Got Talent” formula is the most popular reality TV format in the world (according to the Guinness Book of World Records) and has been commissioned in 58 territories worldwide. And we are the only orchestra to ever make it to the semifinals of Britain’s Got Talent in its 10 years of existence!
The immediate future should be very interesting indeed. In the spirit of collaboration, we plan to continue working with high standard soloists and composers, and to be hired out for private or corporate engagements. One of our specific areas of interest is continuing to work with the film industry, as we offer a full package including composing, performing, recording, mixing and mastering of soundtracks.
